PROJECTS

Horseshoe Bend Landslide

CLIENT North Dakota Department of Transportation

Location McKenzie County, ND

Chronic landslide movement has been affecting US Highway 85, south of Watford City, ND, for at least the last 50 years.  The landslide movement has resulted in several highway realignments.  However, landslide movement and roadway distress has continued to occur.

After completing preliminary studies to assess and characterize landslide activity along US-85, including a preliminary study of mitigation options for the Horseshoe Bend landslide, the NDDOT selected Shannon & Wilson to complete final design of an anchored drilled shaft structure to stabilize the landslide.

Our services included geologic mapping and reconnaissance, field explorations, instrumentation, a satellite-based assessment of ground movement using InSAR techniques, numerical analysis, and preparation of plans and specifications for the project.
