Senior Environmental Scientist


Sheila Hinckley is a Senior Environmental Scientist in Shannon & Wilson’s Fairbanks office with over 10 years of experience in environmental consulting and regulatory compliance, primarily supporting projects throughout Alaska. Sheila is a recognized subject-matter expert in vapor intrusion, landfill monitoring programs, and Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods shipping, and regularly supports clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary project teams in navigating complex environmental requirements.

Sheila’s project experience includes agency coordination, field oversight, QAPP and UFP QAPP development, work plan and report authorship and review, laboratory data evaluation, and management of environmental investigations involving groundwater, surface water, sediments, soil, soil gas, sub slab and indoor air, private wells, landfill leachate, and remedial activities. She has extensive experience overseeing field programs for sites impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, volatile and semi volatile organic compounds, metals, nutrients, and general water quality parameters, landfill gas and leachate constituents, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS.

Before joining Shannon & Wilson, Sheila served for 10 years in the U.S. Army’s 374th Chemical Company, where she specialized in biological detection systems and led teams responsible for identifying and collecting samples of potential biological agents.
