Nick Cunetta

Geological Staff

Nick is a field-based geologist with experience in hard rock structural geology, paleoseismology, and field explorations for engineering applications. Since joining Shannon & Wilson in 2024, Nick has assisted exploration and construction observation projects related to dam seepage, slope stability, and tunneling in Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. This work involved soil and rock core logging, observing tieback anchor installations, managing subsurface databases, and preparing reports.

Prior to joining Shannon & Wilson, Nick worked for the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Science Center on several fault studies in California and Washington. These studies included paleoseismic trenching, lidar-based surficial mapping, collecting shallow geophysical data, and photogrammetry. For his master’s thesis, Nick employed geologic mapping, petrography, and geochronology to better understand the tectonic history of the Northwest Cascades.
